Manufacturer: Walther Model: PPK
This is a beautiful example of a pre-WWII, Walther factory engraved PPK, semi-automatic pistol. The pistol has been highly engraved with the traditional Germanic "Oak Leaf and Acorn" type engraving pattern mixed with a geometric border that covers over 80% of the pistol. This pattern is very similar to several of the special order engraved Walther shown in "Walther Volume II, Engraved, Presentation and Standard Walther Pistols" by Rankin. The serial number is stamped on the right side of the frame with the last three digits, "491" correctly scratched on the inside of the slide. The slide has the original Walther banner, and two line slide legend "/Mod. PPK," on the left side that has been framed in a circular border with the noted engraving pattern covering the remaining surfaces of the slide, sides of the frame and front grip strap. The pistol does not show any "Crown N" proof marks, which would be correct as the pistol was probably pulled directly from the production line and sent to one of the engravers employed by the Walther factory. The metal surfaces were then polished, engraved and factory blued. The slide is fitted with the standard sights and 60 degree safety. It is complete with a Walther marked magazine that has also been engraved on the underside of the base plate, along with a set of original early production mottled, brown plastic, checkered grips with the reinforced metal strap on the back sides.
BBL: 3 1/4 inch round
Stock:
Gauge: 7.65 mm auto
Finish: blue
Grips: brown plastic checkered
Serial Number: 261491K
Condition:
Very fine with 85% of the faded original blue finish overall with some very minor scaling/very fine pin-prick pitting across the slide legend and lower left side/edge, probably from sitting in a holster. The grips are in very good condition with a nice original color overall with some minor warping on the lower front edges of the grips with a couple of very minor stress cracks around grip screw bushings. A nice early example of an original Walther engraved PPK pistol.
