Deluxe Marlin Model 1895 Lever-Action Rifle with Factory Letter
This is an example of a Deluxe Marlin 1895 Rifle. The factory letter states that this rifle was shipped from the factory on April 16, 1896, and has a .45-70 caliber, 26-inch octagon barrel (no mention of other features). The rifle has a blue barrel, full-length magazine, forearm cap and loading gate. The receiver, hammer, loading lever and crescent buttplate have a color casehardened finish. The rifle has a highly figured walnut, checkered, pistol grip stock and checkered forearm. The barrel has a Beach folding globe front sight and a sporting style rear sight. The receiver is fitted with a folding tang sight. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped with the Marlin address and 1887-1893 patent dates in two lines ahead of the rear sight. The caliber, "45-70" is stamped on the top of the barrel in front of the receiver. The top of the receiver is roll-stamped: "MARLIN SAFETY" with stylized arrows at either end. The serial number, "137322" is stamped on the lower front edge of the receiver. The letter "E" is stamped on the underside of the forearm facing the receiver.

Very fine. The rifle retains nearly 90% of the original blue and 60% casehardened finish. The barrel and magazine have only minor edge wear. The barrel markings are sharp. The receiver, hammer and loading lever have strong case colors. The casehardened finish on the side of the bolt is slightly faded and the case colors on the crescent buttplate have faded to a silver patina. The stock is in excellent condition with sharp checkering and nearly all of the original oil finish. The stock shows minimal handling wear. The forearm is in fine condition with significantly more finish and checkering wear than the stock. This is a very fine example of a .45-70 caliber Deluxe Marlin Model 1895 Rifle with special order globe and tang sights.
