Deluxe Marlin Model 1894 Lever-Action Rifle with Factory Letter
This is an original example of a Deluxe Marlin Model 1894 lever action rifle that is documented with a factory letter. The factory letter states that this rifle was shipped from Marlin on April 24, 1896 and was equipped with a 24-inch octagon barrel, half-magazine and pistol grip stock. The rifle has a blued barrel, magazine and forearm cap with casehardened receiver, hammer, loading lever and crescent buttplate. The highly figured walnut stock and forearm are checkered. The rifle barrel has a dovetailed "Rocky Mountain" front sight with nickel-silver blade and a sporting style rear sight. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped with the two-line factory address and patent dates ahead of the front sight and the caliber, "32 W" behind it. The top of the receiver is roll-stamped: "MARLIN SAFETY" with stylized arrows at either end. The upper receiver tang is roll-stamped "MODEL/1894" in two lines. The serial number is located on the bottom of the receiver.

Very fine. The rifle retains 80% plus of the original blue and 75% casehardened finish. The barrel and half-magazine have some very minor edge wear. The receiver is covered with an old over-coat of protective varnish. The varnish has yellowed but the receiver appears to have most of the casehardened finish on the sides with faded case colors on the bottom. Most of the original case colors are present on the hammer and loading lever. The case colors on the buttplate have aged to a dark patina. The barrel and receiver markings are sharp. The deluxe walnut stock and forearm are both in fine condition with numerous scattered light handling marks overall. The checkering is fairly sharp. Both the stock and forearm retain most of the high polish varnish finish. This is an attractive example of a Deluxe Marlin Model 1894 Rifle.
