Deluxe Factory Engraved Colt New Line .41 Caliber Revolver with Pearl Grips
This is a fine example of a deluxe factory engraved Colt New Line .41 Caliber Revolver manufactured in 1876. The revolver is factory engraved and has a nickel-plated finish with casehardened hammer and two-piece, mother-of-pearl, bird's head grips. The revolver is decorated with Germanic (Gustav Young shop) scroll engraving on a punch-dot background. The engraving coverage is equal to what Colt advertising later described as level "A". The top of the barrel is roll-stamped with the two-line legend: "COLT'S PT. MFG. CO./HARTFORD CT. U.S.A.". The underside of the barrel is marked: "PAT. SEPT. 15. 1874" immediately behind the muzzle. The serial number, "3948" is stamped to the right of the patent marking and the rear face of the five shot cylinder is stamped with the partial serial number, "948". "41 CAL" is stamped on the lower left side of the frame.

Fine. The revolver retains approximately half of the original nickel-plated finish. There is moderate finish wear on the lower half of the barrel and the edges of the frame. The cylinder has traces of the plated finish in protected areas with scattered age discoloration. The engraved surfaces are sharp. The barrel and frame markings are clear. The pearl grips are in fine condition and are slightly yellowed with age and some minor chips at the frame. The action is crisp and fully functional.
