Deluxe Eickhorn Subordinate Forestry Official's Dagger, with German Hunting Association Presentation Inscription

Measuring 17 3/4 inches overall, the 13 inch blade bears an etched Eickhorn logo on the left ricasso and etched oak leaf and game scene panels on each side, with an inscription ribbon reading "Fur Verdienste um das Deutsche Waidwerk" (For Contributions to the German Hunting Industry) on the right side and "Vom Deutschen Jagdschutz-Verband" (From the German Hunting Protection Association) on the left side. As the Forestry Officials were responsible for enforcing the laws on the lands used by the Hunting Association, there was a lot of interaction between the two groups. Gilt hilt fittings, with a deer hoof quillion, oak leaf and wild game designs on the guard, languet and collar, and a set of three gilt acorns on each of the stag grip panels. With a green leather scabbard, fittings finished in gold plate with an acorn frog stud and engraved oak wreath on the throat and a hunting dog scene on the tip. A similarly decorated forestry dagger can be seen on page 55 of LTC. Johnson's Collecting the Edged Weapons of the Third Reich, Volume III.
