Manufacturer: Winchester Model: 1894
This antique Winchester Model 1894 rifle features a 30 inch octagon barrel which according to the accompanying factory letter designates "replaced '32/40' octagon" work (no length listed) and speculation is that the factory replaced the original barrel in March of 1900. The top barrel flat is marked with the two line address with "32-40" at the breech. The serial number is marked on the bottom of the receiver. Lyman beaded blade front sight, adjustable semi-buckhorn rear sight and short range Lyman tang mounted peep sight. Blue finish with casehardened hammer and trigger, double set triggers and mounted with a deluxe nicely figured checkered walnut forearm and pistol grip stock with hard rubber Winchester grip cap and crescent buttplate. The accompanying factory letter verifies the extra light rifle configuration, with 30 caliber, 24 inch half octagon barrel, plain trigger, checkered pistol grip stock, Lyman front and rear sights, with no rear sight seat at the time it was received in the warehouse on December 1, 1899. It was changed to 32-40 with an octagon barrel on March 2, 1900 and shipped from the warehouse on March 12, 1900 to order number 53447.

Serial Number: 72395
Condition:
Very good as factory and later rebarreled with 40% slightly thinning original blue finish on the partially refinished barrel and magazine tube, showing some smooth plum patina on the muzzle end of the magazine tube and edge wear. The receiver retains 30% original blue finish mainly in the protected areas with a gray patina on the balance and some very light pitting on the left side. The buttplate and forend cap have a mottled gray patina with some spotting on the buttplate. The hammer and lever have a brownish gray patina with traces of the original case colors in the protected areas. The wood is very good with some normal handling wear on the otherwise crisp checkering and showing some scattered minor dents and dings. The markings are clear. The action is fine.
