Defeat of the British Army. Very rare print, 1815, dedicated "To the United States Glory." 21 -1/2 x 27. In lower margin, in both English and French, "Defeat of the British Army, 12,000 Strong, under the command of Sir Edw'd Packenham, in the attack of the American Lines defended by 3,600 Militia, commanded by Major Andrew Jackson, Jan. 8th, 1815, on Chalmette Plain five miles below New-Orleans, and painted by H'the Laclotte, and assis't. Engineer in the Louisiana Army, the year 1815." Engraved by P.I. Debucourt, signed on plate. This work shows literally hundreds of figures of both British and American soldiers engaged in a myriad of activities. Almost a bird's-eye view of the battle, a soldier in the foreground measures -7/8 " high, one in the background -1/4 " high. Light toning at edge of margin, a few minor irregularities at edge, else very fine. Floated and shrink wrapped on white board, easily removed if desired. Only eight impressions of this print are known to exist, most of them colored. This example is in the original black and white.
