Lot of 3. Deer Creek was where George Hearst owned the rich LeCompton Mine, which he had located in 1857. He sold this mine to raise money to buy into the Ophir claim on the Comstock Lode. This one-sixth share purchase was the start of his long career as a titan in the mining industry. 1) Deer Creek Mining Company. Location, Nevada District, Nevada Co., Cal. (printed at top center).
