Decorative Silver Plated Parade Style Burgonet and Shield

This contemporary German electrotype burgonet is decorated with a scene of topless ladies offering a gift of fruit to a seated man on the right side and a battle scene on the right. There is a panoply of arms on the raised comb. There is a small stamp about the size of a dime on the rear left peak and there was a leather lining originally. The electrotyped shield is also decorated with a battle scene with a band of floral scroll and cherubs around the outside edge. Copies of Emperor Carlos V's parade shield is currently housed in the Royal Armoury of Spain in Madrid. The originals were produced circa 1535.
