Ifugao Tribe, Northern Philippines. SEE: Entries of carved-handle utensils on pages 215-219 in "The People and Art of the Philippines" published in the 1990s by the UCLA Museum of Cultural History. Most shown have figural Bulul handles and this example is one of the largest recorded. Not waxed with pig fat, this is a true culturally-used-often example with four crocodiles (power symbol) around the base of the handle and a loop at the top for hanging when not needed. Three or four rituals a year would require its use. Mid 20thC., choice, important, and a bargain if I ever saw one.
