ALS signed “Wm. Williams,” one page, 6.25 x 8, September 10, 1778. In part: “Mr. James Noyes Barber of Lebanon in this State is legally constituted & appointed Administrator [of the] Estate of Mr David Barber…” Intersecting folds and spots of light staining, otherwise fine condition. Williams was elected to the Continental Congress in 1776 to replace Oliver Wolcott. Though he arrived at Congress too late to vote for the Declaration of Independence, he did sign the formal copy as a representative of Connecticut. Williams was also pastor of the First Congregational Church in Lebanon, Connecticut, and a successful merchant. A rare handwritten letter by one of the men responsible for America’s independence.
