Declaration of Independence Signer Robert Morris
Declaration of Independence Signer Robert Morris Document Signed "Robt. Morris" on verso, one page, 7.5" x 4.25", dated 1795 May 8 being a financial agreement between Morris and Jonathan Nicholson. Nicholson agrees to pay Morris twenty-five hundred dollars in three years. Morris and Nicholson, in conjunction with James Greenleaf, formed the ill-fated North American Land Company in 1795 which owned millions of acres in various states. Due to unforseen troubles, the company failed. A minor creditor put Morris in jail for three and a half years which broke his spirit. This document was likely part of the financial maneuvering done while the three men were establishing their company. Show through from Morris' signature through body of text, rough bottom edge, vertical folds and wrinkles, else fine condition. Accompanied by COA from PSA/DNA.
