Massachusetts lawyer (1731–1814) who served as one of the prosecutors of British soldiers during the Boston Massacre trial; he later signed the Declaration of Independence. Manuscript DS, signed “Paine, Atty,” one page, 3.75 x 6.25, September 1770. Handwritten list of legal expenses, written in another hand. Expenses include a writ fee of seven shillings, 30 miles of travel of six shillings, and eight days of attendance, for a total monthly expense of £1.19.6. Some scattered toning, a bisecting vertical fold, and some light edge creases, otherwise fine condition. Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
