Financier and politician, signer of the Declaration of Independence, and founder of the Bank of North America. Partly-printed DS, signed “Robt. Morris,” one page, 12.75 x 10, May 28, 1795. Stock certificate issued to John Barker Church entitling him to 20 shares of North American Land Property, with a dividend of six dollars per share. Signed at the conclusion by Morris as the company’s president. In very good condition, with scattered light wrinkling and creasing, damp staining to top portion of document, scattered toning, and light ink erosion to opening stroke of signature. There is no seal present. Morris and his partner John Nicholson had speculated heavily in land together, but when the bottom fell out of their company venture, Morris was left penniless and deeply in debt.
