Delegate to the Continental Congress and signer of the Declaration of Independence from North Carolina (1741–1788). ADS, signed “J. P.,” one page, 7.25 x 3, May 7, 1783. Penn orders a North Carolina sheriff to take a man into custody. In part: “To the Sherif of Granville County Greeting. We Command you to take the body of William Dodson late of your said County planter – if to be found in your bailiwick & him safely keep so that you have him before the Justices of our County Court of Granville at the Courthouse on the first Monday in Aug. next to Answer Charles Dodson of a plea of trespass on the case Damage Twenty pounds.” In very good condition, with some mild toning, a bit heavier along three vertical folds, a couple small pinholes of paper loss along folds, and a couple small creases.
