Endorsement signature “J. P.,” on the reverse of a manuscript document, 7.25 x 3.25, dated May 5, 1783, ordering the Granville County Sheriff to arrest William Dodson accused of trespassing by his brother Charles. Penn has also docketed the reverse, “Dodson vs Dodson Writ. To Aug Term 1783,” and initialled the bottom, “J. P.” Three vertical folds, and scattered light toning, otherwise fine condition. In his 1995 reference History Comes to Life, Kenneth Rendell places Penn’s autograph material into the “very rare” category among the Signers.
