Signer of the Declaration of Independence from North Carolina (1741–1788) who also practiced law and served in the Continental Congress. Endorsement “J. P.,” on the reverse of a manuscript document, 7.25 x 3.25, dated May 5, 1783, ordering the Granville County Sheriff to arrest William Dodson accused of trespass by his brother Charles. Penn has also docketed the reverse, “Dodson vs Dodson) Writ. To Aug Term 1783,” and initialling the bottom, “J. P.” Three vertical folds, and scattered light toning, otherwise fine condition.
