Signer of the Declaration of Independence from Pennsylvania (1742–1798). In 1789, he became one of the original nine justices appointed by Washington to the Supreme Court. DS, signed “James Wilson,” one page both sides, 6.25 x 3, January 13, 1795. Promissory note to pay Wilson $3,000.00, signed on the reverse in black ink by Wilson. In fine condition, with intersecting folds, (one lightly affecting the “m” in “James,”) scattered creasing, and a bit of light soiling. Wilson’s signature is bold and prominent.
