Signed book: A Practical View of the Prevailing Religious System of Professed Christians in the Higher and Middle Classes, Contrasted with Real Christianity by William Wilberforce, Esq. First edition, first printing. Philadelphia: John Ormrod, 1798. Hardcover, 5.25 x 8.5, 343 plus index pages. Signed on the inside front cover, “Benj:n Rush’s,” and also signed on the title page by his wife, “Mrs. Julia Rush 1813.” In good condition, with moderately heavy foxing to inside front cover, light toning and foxing to remaining pages, cracking to both hinges (covers still attached), book re-backed at spine, heavy wear and surface loss to covers, and missing portion of label on spine. Book is housed in a custom-made blue cloth clamshell box with book-like spine, gilt lettered title and author on black label in upper spine.
