Declaration Signer George Wythe AE Declaration Signer George Wythe Autograph Endorsement.
Declaration Signer George Wythe Autograph Endorsement. One partial page removed from document, 3" x 2.25", np, May, 1799. In full, "May, 1799. accounts may, by consent of defendant, be refered; and, upon report, motion to dissolve the injunction, now denied, may be repeated." A notation on the verso reads, in full, "Autograph of Chancellor Wythe of Virginia, one of the Signers of the Declaration of Independence-- Sent to me in 1829 by John Mickleson Esq of Richmond-- R. Gilmor." While not a signature, Wythe material is rare enough that this would nicely serve to fill the void in most collections. Wythe signed the Declaration of Independence as a representative of Virginia from where he was a delegate to the Continental Congress in 1775-1776. Wythe was the first professor of Law in America and numbered Thomas Jefferson, Henry Clay, and James Monroe among his students. He is known as "The Father of American Jurisprudence." Very good condition. From the Henry E. Luhrs Collection. Accompanied by LOA from PSA/DNA.
