Declaration Signer George Walton Signature & ALS Declaration Signer George Walton Signature and Auto
Declaration Signer George Walton Signature and Autograph Letter Signed "Geo Walton". One page, 7" x 8.5", np, May 18, 1784, written as Georgia Chief Justice to Georgia Governor John Houstoun. Walton signed (the youngest to do so) the Declaration of Independence as a representative from Georgia. He was also a member of the Continental Congress 1776-1777 and 1780-1781. He had a role in the duel in which Lachlan McIntosh shot and killed Button Gwinnett. John Houstoun might himself have signed the Declaration as he was elected a delegate to the Continental Congress in 1775. However, he was in Georgia trying to put down a Loyalist uprising led by John Zubly at the time. Very good condition; folds, areas of staining not affecting signature, very minor smear on signature. Originally purchased from Walter R. Benjamin Autographs.

Also included in this lot is a Signature "Geo. Walton Chief Justice" removed from a document, 4.25" x 1.25", dated 1783. Fine condition. From the Henry E. Luhrs Collection. Accompanied by LOA from PSA/DNA.
