Declaration Signer Francis Lewis Autograph Document Signed twice "Frans Lewis" on front and "F Lewis" on verso. One page, 15.5" x 9.5", New York, March 13, 1778. A handwritten itemized account submitted to the state of New York for sums due him. Entries include: items purchased at Baltimore; supplies for the army purchased at Yorktown and Valley Ford [sic Forge?]; $200 cash for paper used by the state paid by another Declaration signer Robert Morris. Lewis was also a delegate to the Continental Congress in 1775 and signed the Declaration of Independence as a representative of New York. His Long Island property was destroyed by the British during the Revolutionary War. There is a boulevard named after him in Queens, New York, as well as a high school. This war-dated letter signed by one Declaration signer (twice) and mentioning another is very important and desirable. Fine condition. From the Henry E. Luhrs Collection.
