Dean, James. Ping-pong paddle signed and inscribed, "To Janis What a great shot, but still not enough! James Dean," no place, no date (early 1950s). Written with a fountain pen in blue ink to a woman with whom he had played table tennis. Accompanied by a print of a photo of Dean playing ping pong. James Dean (1931-1955) was an icon of teenage disillusionment as portrayed in his roles as troubled teenager Jim Stark in Rebel Without a Cause, loner Cal Trask in East of Eden (1955), and the surly ranch hand, Jett Rink, in Giant (1956). Dean was the first actor to receive a posthumous Academy Award nomination for Best Actor. He received two: the first for East of Eden, in 1955, and the second in 1956 for Giant in 1956. He died in a car crash on Sept. 30, 1955, which assured his legendary status.
Estimated Value $800 - 1,000.
