"Dead Man's Canyon" Guy Deel (1933-2005) Original Pulp Art Illustration Mixed Media on board. Used on the cover of the western paperback book published in the 70's. Commissioned by Ballantine Books. Excellent Condition. 24" x 36" Born in Tuxedo, Texas, Deel was known for his Western Illustrations. In 1976 Deel began doing book covers for paperback for various different publishers. He did over 25O book covers for writers such as Elmer Kelton, J. T. Edson and Louis Lamour. Deel created the extraordinary (138 foot) mural at the Gene Autry Museum in Los Angeles, depicting the history of the American West. Deel was a close friend of Autry’s. In 2003, Deal was commissioned to paint a large (7 feet long) painting for his home town, Irving, Texas which hangs in City Hall. It commemorates the town's 1OOth Anniversary. The painting depicts the events of October 9, 19O3 when parcels were first sold in Irving.
