Deactivated Russian Maxim Model 1910 Machine Gun with Sokolov Mount and Assorted Ammunition
Developed by Hiram Maxim, the Maxim Gun was the first commercially successful machine gun, being adopted by, among others, the British, Germans and Russians. Among the Russian forces, the Maxim saw use in both World Wars, equipped with the Sokolov Mount, a wheeled carriage with ballistic shield. Fitted with a ribbed cooling jacket, left-offset blade and staff sights, wooden "spade" profile grips, and the Sokolov Mount, minus ballistic shield, metal construction with green paint finish. At some point the upper receiver cover was replaced with one bearing markings from Finland, suggesting that this arm changed hands at least once during the various conflicts between the two nations. Also included is a metal ammunition tin, a wooden crate labeled for Mk3A2 offensive grenades, 7.62mm brass and a mixed grouping of sporting ammunition. Condition: Very good as modified, with 70% of the blue finish, showing a brown patina and scattered handling marks, as well as 85% of the original matte green on the cooling jacket. The mount shows mild handling wear. The solid replacement new receiver components were replaced during the deactivation process.
