This document appoints Reuben Saxton to Captain of 41st Regiment of the New York Infantry. This was signed while Clinton was serving as governor of New York, a post he served until 1823. Clinton was very active in politics all his life, even running for president in 1812. He played a large role in the development of New York City and its surrounding areas. The document is in fine condition; usual folds are present; light separation has occurred on the inner folds; moderate edge wearing from brittle paper; light overall toning.
