DeLamar,ID - Owyhee County - c1895 - Miners Pose (Ghost Town) Photograph :
Amidst lumber and logs, miners take a moment for a photo. Photograph measures 7 3/4”x4 3/4”, beige single matte 9 7/8”x8”, Medium contrast—suffers from minor fading, and the focus is sharp. Expressions on the miners are easily discerned. The matte suffers from two tears, one that has transferred to the photo creating a crease on the lower right hand corner. Otherwise the photo is in good condition. The DeLamar mine was located 4 1/2 miles west of Silver City. The mine was formed in 1888 after the purchase of mineral claims on DeLamar Mountain. The mine boomed in 1890 and a post office was established between the years of 1889 and 1942. The town was named for the mining capitalist Joseph R. DeLamar. (Boone, Idaho Place Names)
