1708 Edition. Requested by Cardinal de Richelieu, de Marca composed the De Concordia, which first appeared in 1641. De Marca (1594-1662) sought to harmonise the claims of the church and state, allowing greater independence to the secular power. The subject was large and one can find in the book, e.g., a discussion of the so-called Donation of Constantine (pp. 105-07). The book was placed on the Index prohibititorum librorum, and de Marca retracted his views. The author was Archbishop of Toulouse and, for a short time, in the year of his death, Archbishop of Paris.
