Dayak Antique Dart Holder
This Antique Dyak Dart Holder was collected along the upper Mahakam River Region of East Kalimantan Island, Indonesia. The body of the holder is made of blackened bamboo. The holder cover is carved from a lighter weight material, is decoratively carved and trimed in fiber weaving. The wood hook is fastened to the Dart Holder with the same type of fiber weave wrap, features an ornate carving of the mythical god "Oso", a dog-like dragon creature and is probably Ulin wood, nicknamed "Tree of Life" by the Dayak peoples. The carrier contains ten split bamboo darts with lightweight feather caps. This Dayak Dart Holder is approx. 16" tall X 3" in diameter, appears old and somewhat worn, possibly due to use, a treasure in any collection. (Have you viewed the Dayak Blow Guns in lots 157 & 158?)
