109. David O. Selznick signed agreement to produce Gone With the Wind and confirming Clark Gable will play Rhett Butler. (1938) Vintage original 8 x 11 in. 1-page agreement signed by David O. Selznick confirming his role as producer for the film Gone With the Wind, and that Clark Gable shall play the role of "Rhett Butler". Dated 25 August 1938. Signed by Selznick at conclusion, as well as by Dr. Attilio Giannini, member of the Executive Committee for Selznick International Pictures, Inc. The men agree to the following recitals outlined in the agreement, reading in part, WHEREAS, an agreement has been prepared between Loew's, Incorporated, and Selznick International Pictures, Inc...provided that Loew's, Incorporated, will contribute a sum...toward the production of a motion picture photoplay...entitled 'GONE WITH THE WIND'...WHEREAS, an agreement has likewise been prepared...which Loew's, Incorporated, agrees to lend the services of Clark Gable...for the portrayal of the role of RHETT BUTLER...the Executive Committee of Selznick International Pictures, Inc., shall and does hereby authorize David O. Selznick, President of said corporation, to execute each of the above mentioned contracts..." David O. Selznick had wanted Clark Gable to play the role of Rhett Butler, but since Gable was contracted to MGM and therefore unavailable, Selznick forged an agreement with Loew's -- MGM's parent company -- to help finance the film, share profits, and loan out Gable. Exhibiting staple punctures and a spot of discoloration to side. In vintage very good to fine condition. $2,000 - $3,000
