Limited edition etching and aquatint with hand coloring in gouache, entitled ‘A Souvenir of a Triple Bill for Charles,’ 22 x 17, numbered 15/300, signed and inscribed in the lower border in pencil, “For Charles Riecker, from David Hockney.” Matted and framed to an overall size of 31 x 24. In fine condition. This outstanding print was made for the opening of the ballet Parade by Erik Satie at the Metropolitan Opera in New York. Hockney designed both sets and costumes for the three 20th–century French works that were offered at the Metropolitan Opera House under the embracing title ‘Parade.’ In addition to Satie’s ballet, the pieces included Les Mamelles de Tiresias, an opera with libretto by Guillame Apollinaire and music by Francis Poulenc, and L’Enfant et les Sortileges, an opera with libretto by Colette and music by Maurice Ravel.
