<B>David Dixon Porter Letter and Free Franked Cover Signed,</B></I> both as "<I>David D. Porter</B></I>". The letter is one page, 7.75" x 9.75", Navy Department letterhead, Washington, D.C., August 16, 1865, to E. J. Brooks at Tamaqua, Pennsylvania. In answer to a request, Porter grants a three-month leave of absence to the correspondent. Very good condition; folds, some staining, Porter's signature has "bled" just a bit. <BR><BR>The associated envelope has Porter's franking signature as Chief of Bureau, and features a "Washington, D.C. Free" postmark dated August 16, 1865, 6.25" x 3.5". Very good condition with some general staining.
