Signer of the Constitution from New Jersey. Revolutionary War-dated manuscript DS, signed “David Brearley,” one page, 8.75 x 9, September 23, 1779. Document to the High Sheriff of Essex regarding “a Court of Oyer of Term of General Goal [Jail] Delivery himself of Deputy 9 Days @ £8 pr Day…sumoning the Grand Jury…9 petty juries.” Brearley and William Burnet sign under the following statement: “We the Subscribers Justices of the above mentioned Court having examined the above Account amounting unto Ninety two Pounds three Shillings – do Adjudge the same to be just and Adequate." Reverse bears a handwritten receipt by Israel Hedden. In very good condition, with intersecting folds, one through a single letter of signature, scattered light toning and soiling, show-through from docketing on reverse, and a rough top edge.
