The Man Who Sold The World album signed beautifully on the front cover in blue ballpoint by David Bowie, "Thanx, Bowie," and by his 'Spiders from Mars' bandmates Mick Ronson, Mick 'Woody' Woodmansey, and Trevor Bolder. These rare, early signatures date to circa 1972. Indeed, it is quite unusual to find Woodmansey sign as "Mick" versus Woody. In the ensuing years, Ronson, Woodmansey, and Bolder would go on to critical acclaim as the Spiders from Mars backing up Bowie on the classic albums Hunky Dory (1971), The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars (1972), and Aladdin Sane (1973). This album was only released in the U.S. and Japan with this original cover: the building in the background is Cane Hill, the psychiatric hospital where David Bowie's half-brother Terry was a patient. In addition to the album cover, the hospital inspired the Bowie hit 'All The Madmen,' the second track on the record and a tribute to his half-brother. Often referred to as the beginning of David Bowie's classic period, The Man Who Sold The World paved the way for Bowie's unique sound. Authentic autographs of Bowie and the Spiders are extremely rare, in any form. To date, this is the only known example we have ever seen of this early album vintage-signed by all members. In fine condition. The record is included. Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Tracks.
