<B>David Ben-Gurion Autograph Document.</B></I> Three pages, in Hebrew, 6.5" x 8.5", np, nd. A fantastic handwritten speech draft by Ben-Gurion. Ben-Gurion was head of the provisional Israeli government during the 1948 war of independence. He later served as the first Prime Minister and returned to that office when problems erupted with the Arabs. He sanctioned the 1956 attack on Egypt and was responsible for the establishment of modern Israel. In part the notes read: "<I>What was special about MAPAI and what made it a guide for the settlement and state for thirty years, since 1933 to 1948 and 1948 to 1963? The wish to change from a status to a nationNot a nation like all other nations, but a nation where no adult lives at the expense of his fellowman. A nation making its living from work, physical work and spiritual work, professional and scientific work, on the basis of partnership and brotherhood, liberty and equality, until we are an example to all other nations and until the entire Jewish world revolves around, those who migrate to Israel and those who don't. We wished to be as prophet Isaiah prophesized: 'I will keep you and will make you to be a covenant for the people and a light for the Gentiles.' And so we saw the way of the entire nation, not as it is but how it should be, as our wayOne may ask what our program is? Our program is etched on the boards of our history since the Jewish people wished for a state established it and the state grew. We were partners and initiators in all the changes that occurred in Israel since the second ALIYA (immigration). In the battle for Hebrew work, Jewish security and self-defense, woman equality, working settlements for gathering of the Diaspora and the absorption of newcomers and finally for the foundation of a stateOur stature, the pulling power of the state of Israel to Jews around the world depends on one thing: The constant nurture of our moral and cultural foundation. Not Nazzer nor our Egyptian enemies are the states greatest danger but our moral corruption the distance we drifted from truth and justice without which there is no culture no brotherhood, no peace, and no respect, no immigration nor gathering of the Diaspora. It was cast upon us to be Isaiah's covenant for the people and a light for the Gentiles. That prophecy shall be realized if we the chosen people, a nation radiating truth, justice, freedom and Jewish pioneering ability.
