Rare flown flag of the Soviet Union carried on the Apollo 15 mission, 5.75 x 4.25, signed and flight-certified along the bottom in ink, “Flown in lunar orbit for 6 days during Apollo 15, Dave Scott.” In fine condition. Accompanied by a signed letter of authenticity from Dave Scott, in part: “I hereby certify that the flag of the Union of Soviet Socialists Republics (‘USSR’) included with this letter…is from my personal collection and was flown in lunar orbit for six days aboard the CSM Endeavor during Apollo 15, July 26-August 7, 1971. This USSR flag was flown in recognition of the contributions made by the USSR to the exploration of space. This particular flag is certified on the lower border with: ‘Flown in Lunar Orbit for 6 days during Apollo 15, Dave Scott, CDR.’…[and] has been in my personal collection since returning to Earth.” With the United States having just beaten the USSR in the ‘Space Race,’ this flown flag presents an interesting contrast between the competing superpower nations.
