South Italy, Ca. 5th - 4th Century BC, Beautiful brown on tan bi-chrome jug. The body of the jar features both horizontal and vertical lines. The interior part of the rim is painted with a brown band at the very top of the rim, the handle features three vertical lines and is fully intact and never repaired. Olpe measures 3 1/2"H x 4 1/2"W. The sides of the olpe have surface wear and there is a professional circular crack repair. The base of the jar has a chip, but it is unnoticable except when looking at the bottom.

Provenance: Ex-Byron Farwell Collection. Part of a 209 piece collection of ancient pottery featured in the book, "The Farwell Collection" published in 1953 by Franklin P. Johnson, University of Chicago art historian and archaeologist. Byron Farwell was a young Army captain stationed in Italy during WW II, and pieces presented in this book were personally excavated by him in 1944/45 in Ordonia, Italy.
