Darwin, Charles (1809-1882) British naturalist whose scientific studies and subsequent theory of natural selection form the basis of modern evolutionary theory. Letter signed, 1 page, 5 x 8 in., Down, Beckenham, Kent, 17 July 1875. To the Swiss zoologist and comparative anatomist Ludwig Rütimeyer who sent Darwin his book, Die Veränderung der Thierwelt in der Schweiz seit Anwesenheit des Menschen (Changes in the Animal World in Switzerland since the Presence of Human Beings). "I am very much obliged to you for sending me your 'Veränderungen etc.' which is sure to interest me greatly, like everything else that you have written. With much respect I remain my dear Sir Yours sincerely Charles Darwin."

Accompanied by an autograph note signed "L. Rütimeyer," 25 March 1896, sending his best wishes and autograph.
