Film producer (1902-1979) best known for The Jazz Singer which introduced sound to motion pictures. Jovial and endearing TLS signed “Darryl,” one page, 7 x 10.5, personal letterhead, January 30, 1945. Zanuck writes to famed composer Jerome Kern shortly after his 60th birthday. In full: “Please accept my belated congratulations on your birthday. I have been so damn busy in the cutting rooms that the fact that it was last Saturday slipped my mind entirely. I am sure that the first state of your life has been very satisfying and I know that the next stage will be even more so. I wish I were a composer. What a nostalgic thrill it must give you to play some of your earlier songs. When I look at some of my earlier pictures, I want to vomit.” In fine condition, with a few wrinkles, light creases, and a horizontal mailing fold passing through his signature.
