Darren Siwes develops new ways of interpreting ‘Aboriginal Art’ and is one of the most important Australian artists of indigenous origin
The present work is titled ‘One Night At Mt Lofty’ and was taken in the course of Darren Siwes series ‘Misperceptions’. It depicts a blurred depiction of himself on the driveway towards a brightly illuminated stone building. Darren Siwes often uses pictures of his own or his wife’s silhouette and presents them in front of a church, a memorial or a historic building. His works may be interpreted as visual statements about the integration of Aborigines into the white Australian community.
The photograph is laminated on an aluminium board and sealed with acrylic glass. It merely shows a number of faint scratches on the surface of the acrylic glass. The wooden frame is painted in black and is partly clearly affected by handling and scratch marks. The sheet size is 100 x 120 cm and the framed overall dimensions are 118.8 x 138.5 cm.
