Dark Command Roy Rogers
Before the legendary Roy Rogers became "King of the Cowboys", and a true American icon, he was a young actor, who usually played "good guys". An interesting deeper leveled character was in "Dark Command" (1940) a movie he cherished for the rest of his life, especially for the chance to act with John Wayne who became a life-long friend. This is his hero worn outfit, including pants, vest and jacket. The pants and vest are seen in many scenes in the first two-thirds of the film, and the Jacket is worn near the beginning of the film during the big street fight. An interesting side note about the jacket: the back has a bullet hole above the right shoulder blade. In the movie, Rogers goes from being a sweet innocent, to a murderer, to a renegade, to a hero. In one of the last sequences he saves John Wayne and is shot in the back while on a buckboard. Supposedly, the sequence was originally shot on the main street with Rogers in that jacket, and thus the bullet hole and blood were created. However he felt the sequence wasn't exciting enough, and quickly reshot it with the big chase and shootout, with Rogers wearing a Confederate "long coat" instead.
