Danubian limes. Danubian mystic plaque. Dacia and Moesia, 3rd-4th century AD. Obv. Danubian cast lead plaque with figural design in several scenes : arch with coiled serpents above in the upper corners; three bands of figures within the arch; Sol Invictus (Helios) in a chariot pulled by four hippocamps, with radiate crown and cloak, in the upper row; stars to left and to right. In the middle row, Helen facing between the Dioscuri on horseback (the Danubian Horsemen); soldier with spear and shield and fish below the horse to the left; figure standing and prone figure trampled by the horseman to the right. In the third row, feasting scene with diners at a table flanked by two naked attendants to right; shepherd hanging animals from tree to left. In the lower row, amphora between lion and coiled snake; fish on tripod to left; hen standing left to right. Rev. Plain. PB. g. 167.90 RR. 94x79 mm. EF. Very rare in this exceptional condition.
