Wonderful large format photo by Danny On. 16" by 20". Signed lower right. Danny, born in California, started working as a smokejumper stationed in Cave Junction Oregon in 1946, while he was attending college at University of Montana after his return from his World War II service as a paratrooper in the 101st Airborne Division. He earned his Bachelor's Degree and Master's Degree in Forestry in 1952, both from University of Montana.. He was the first Asian Pacific American smokejumper, and would go on to work for decades in the Forest Service as a well-respected silviculturalist and passionate photographer, skier, and outdoorsman. Danny's long career with the Forest Service began with smoke-jumping in Oregon, but led him through the Deschutes National Forest in Bend, Oregon, the Kootenai National Forest (stationed at Ant Flat Ranger Station), the Region 1 Regional Office in Missoula, and the Flathead National Forest. His renowned wildlife and nature photography was published in a multitude of field guides of the area and featured in shows across the state. He passed away at the age of 54 in a skiing accident on Big Mountain.
