American screenwriter (1913–2003) who won the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay for his work on the 1953 classic From Here to Eternity. TLS signed “Dan,” one page, 7.25 x 10.25, personal letterhead, March 10, 1952. Letter to producer Buddy Adler, in part: "Just a note to tell you the official word on the option was received and all is well. I've started work on Eternity though I haven't dived into dialogue yet. I always like to think through a job the first week or so of screenplay even with a full treatment. Also I expected to return for The Library commitment on the 10th (today). Just a couple of days ago that date was postponed and the new date for my work on The Library is arch 17th. I hope by then to have most, if not all, of the problems posed by the Army, you, Mr. Cohn, Eve Ettinger, and myself, in hand. So that when The Library job is finished I can go into actual dialogue with no further preliminaries. Actually, I may have some of the scenes under way before the week is out. I'm delighted about Cohn's reaction to our interlude in Washington and of course you know how I've always felt and continue to feel about Eternity—I just think we're going to have a great picture." Lower portion features annotations in unknown hands. In fine condition.
