Daniel Morgan Manuscript Document Signed “Dan Morgan,” one page, 22.5” x 15”. Frederick County, Virginia, February 26, 1784. Daniel Morgan signs as one of three witnesses to a release of 306 acres of land by Martin Ashby to Edward Snickers for £500. Daniel Morgan served with the colonial forces during the French and Indian War. During the Revolutionary War, he was commissioned captain of a company of Virginia riflemen in July 1775. Morgan was taken prisoner at Quebec on December 31, 1775 and was exchanged in the fall of 1776. He was later commissioned Brigadier General in the Continental Army (1780). On January 17, 1781, Gen. Morgan overcame a superior British force by his effective use of cavalry at the battle of Cowpens, South Carolina. In 1794, he commanded federal troops ordered out by President Washington to suppress the Whiskey Rebellion in Pennsylvania. The document is scalloped at the top edge, with wear and tiny holes along folds. There is light soiling throughout and a horizontal fold repair on verso, otherwise very good condition.

Shipping: Flat Material, Small (view shipping information)
