<B>Daniel D. Tompkins as Governor of New York Autograph Letter Signed,</B></I> two pages with address panel, 7.5" x 9.5", Albany, New York, March 2, 1812, to John Bullis, New York City. The letter reads in part: "<I>…I have been repeatedly desired to mention to you that the Republicans in this Quarter are desirous, that instead of Mr. Walton, some friend to the Government should have the transportation of Navy Articles from this place to the Western waters…Walton is considered in the light of a British Adherer and is largely engaged in smuggling from Canada…</B></I>" Archival repairs and mounted in 20th century folder. Otherwise clean and quite legible. Overall very good condition.<BR>A scarce letter written on the cusp of the War of 1812 when anti-British sentiment was rightly reaching fever pitch. The letter's recipient was a Naval agent based in Washington. Tompkins went on to become Vice President under James Monroe. <I>Ex. Henry E.
