American sculptor (1850–1931) best known for his monumental historical works, most notably the sculpture that forms the centerpiece of the Lincoln Memorial. ALS signed “Daniel C. French,” two pages on two adjoining sheets, 5.75 x 6.5, personal letterhead, April 3, 1907. French writes to a Mrs. Rowland. In full: “I have been wondering if photographs of sculpture would be admissable [sic] to the proposed exhibition. I have enlargments [sic] (24 inches by 30+ or so—) of some groups that I made for the New York Caston House, four of them, and and I have one or two others. I really should rather be represented by these, which are of my most important works in recent years, than by the small pieces I named this morning. I can easily understand that you may not want photographs at all and if this is so, please do not hesitate to decline my suggestion.” In fine condition, with horizontal fold.
