American sculptor (1850–1931) best known for his monumental historical works, most notably the sculpture that forms the centerpiece of the Lincoln Memorial. TLS signed “Daniel C. French,” one page, 7 x 7.75, personal letterhead, January 31, 1923. French responds to an admirer at Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire. In full: “I am very glad to comply with the request contained in your letter of January 26th, and have sent you a photograph of the statue of Lincoln which is in the Lincoln Memorial at Washington. I regret that I have not a larger photo to send you.” Matted with a small image of the Lincoln statue and framed to an overall size of 15 x 12. In fine condition, with intersecting horizontal and vertical folds with a vertical fold affecting his middle initial. Fabulous content as the sculptor references his most famous creation.
