American military officer (1818–1898) who served in the Seminole, Mexican-American, and Civil Wars. His actions in the last were the source of much controversy, and he was ultimately relieved of command for his failure to pursue Bragg’s withdrawal following the Battle of Perryville in 1862. ANS signed “D. C. Buell,” one page, lightly-lined, 5 x 3.75, no date. Note to an unidentified recipient. In full: “Please detain my paper until I can give you further notice in regard to its directions. It is now being sent to Washington City D. C.” Note has been inlaid to an 8 x 10.5 off-white sheet. In fine condition, with a couple stray ink marks and some light toning. RRAuction COA.
