Note: Daniel Albert Veresmith was born in Ohio in 1861 as Daniel Wehrschmidt. He changed his name to Veresmith when he moved to London in 1883 and, subsequently, to Doneraile, Co. Cork. The present work appears to be an amalgam of Irish historical characters from Daniel O’Connell (“The Liberator”) to Michael Collins and De Valera. Prominence is given to William of Orange’s statue in the foreground.
